What is different about the CWS?

The CWF uses  the 5 steps and the 5 shapes which are a distillation of a biblical understanding of the nature of man and his relationship with God integrated with an evidence based understanding of the psychological and physical functioning of man.  It is therefore more a framework than a specific counselling model which allows workers to take into account the spiritual issues and physical/psychological issues  .

The specific value of the CWF therefore is that it …

  1. can catalyse the rate and integration of growth, when 2 or 3 get together, as well as within small groups, churches, counselling/coaching ministries and professional mental health practices.
  2. can be helpful across a range of different ages, genders and culture.
  3. can be applied to both counselling and coaching, providing a framework for a continuum of care, for those who are not going so well to those who are succeeding.
  4. can be used by a continuum of providers, including the lay person, a small group leader, a pastor, people helper or someone in prayer/parachurch ministry, as well as a professional mental health practitioner/counsellor. The framework is not discipline specific.
  5. can provide a common and uniting language, a way of communicating with each other about the understanding helping of people and  their relationships. Networking works and one person can be supported by different helpers, working together.
  6. provides a flexible framework for Connecting, Understanding and Responding, so that any individual is released to use one’s own personality, style of practice, and theoretical emphases, regardless of level of professional expertise or place of practise (eg within the church setting or in the community).
  7. makes better counsellors in providing a clear and comprehensive way of seeing (like through a spectacle frame) and Understanding people’s present position, where they have come from and where there are possibly heading (like having a map). As a result the CWF also improves the accuracy and efficiency of  Responding  to another person.  It also assists in clarifying the workers strengths and limitations, reducing burnout and facilitates an Engaging together with others.
  8. is Biblically based and integrated into spiritual, psychological, biological and social approaches to change.
  9. is being used at church level to facilitate the presentation of the "whole Gospel" and the great commission of making disciples.
  10. is helping people to live the great commandment, to love God with all of their heart, soul, mind and strength, and their neighbour as themselves (Mark 12:30, 31).
